First and foremost I’m a Mom and a wife. I think this week exemplified just how much that is true. As you may know, I have been working on renovating our master bedroom and master bath for a while now. I’m almost finished. I just need to touch up the paint, hang a couple of lights, and hang towel bars. Maybe even put in some floating shelves. However, what did I spend my day working on? If you guessed my daughter’s bathroom you would be correct.
My teenage daughter has taken over her younger brother’s bathroom because the vanity light is brighter in his bathroom. But she likes the shower in her bathroom better. So she really hasn’t just taken over his bath, she has taken over both bathrooms! To try and rectify this situation before it gets out of hand, I took her shopping for a new vanity light for her bathroom. The next day, I switched off the breaker and removed the light from her vanity, thinking as I began I would be finished before she got home from school.
But things are never easy and when I removed the light I discovered three holes in the wall which were hidden by the base plate on the old light. The base plate on the new light is about 1/3 the size of the old one, so two of the three holes will show when I hang the new light. Now I have to patch the drywall and then repaint that section of wall. Which means, the master bedroom and bathroom project is put on hold again.
That’s just how my life goes. And I do it happily. I realize these days won’t last for very much longer. Someday all too soon, I will have more than enough time to complete my projects because someday all too soon the kids will be grown and have homes of their own and I will miss the days when I could get nothing done for myself because all my time and energy was devoted to them. So now, while they are still young, I will gladly put my projects on hold and hang a new light and paint my daughter’s bathroom. This project isn’t what I had planned to work on next, but when finished it will make both my children happy and that will make me much happier than a perfect master bedroom and bathroom ever could.
