Buttercream Frosting Recipe
Buttercream frosting is a great choice as it is delicious and easy to work with. I typically use one of two modified versions of the Wilton Buttercream Icing.
Option 1
This version is more stable and can be used when the frosting or the final product will remain unrefrigerated for longer. It’s a great choice for a kids party or a school event. This version produces a true white frosting.
1 tsp Wilton clear vanilla extract
1 tsp Wilton no color butter flavor
1 cup solid vegetable Shortening (crisco) {the freshness of the shortening effects the taste!!}
1 lb shifted confectioners sugar
a pinch of salt
3 TBSP water
Mix the powdered sugar, salt, and the meringue powder in a bowl. Cream the shortening and all liquid ingredients in a large mixing bowl. Slowly add the dry ingredients and mix on low speed until blended. Mix on medium speed an additional two minutes or until frosting is creamy.
Option 2
This option produces a slightly more flavorful frosting, but the color will not be a true white and it will need to be refrigerated.
1 tsp Wilton clear vanilla extract
1/2 cup softened butter or margarine
1/2 cup solid vegetable Shortening (crisco) {the freshness of the shortening effects the taste!!}
1 lb shifted confectioners sugar
a pinch of salt
3 TBSP milk
Mix the powdered sugar, salt, and the meringue powder in a bowl. Cream the shortening, butter, and all liquid ingredients in a large mixing bowl. Slowly add the dry ingredients and mix on low speed until blended. Mix on medium speed an additional two minutes or until frosting is creamy.
