Bringing it all together
This year is all about organization. We see and hear it everywhere. From the new organizational items on the market to the new TV shows about organization; organization is definately on everyone’s mind this year. I was able to utilize our rather long family entrance hallway (you know, the one to the garage since we never actually use our front door) to organize several, often chaotic, tasks into one area. Areas such as this have many names. Some people call them “command centers”, some call them “family planning centers”, and some call them “drop zones’. I have also seen them referred to by many other names but whatever you call…

Weekly Family Planner for the Command Center
I finally found the weekly family calendar that I have been looking for. I use one of the Mom’s calendars for planning further out, and I love it, but I need a larger and more prominent calendar to plan out our weeks. When I saw this at Hobby Lobby I knew it was the one. Even though I really like this one, it was missing a couple of things. First I sometimes need to keep track of papers which have to be returned to school on particular days or items that needs to be mailed on a specific date. To help with that, I attached Bulldog clips between each day.…

My Trick for Perfect Placement on a Gallery Wall
I love gallery walls when everything is in its perfect place. I think I must be worse at deciding on the perfect place than most because I never get it right the first time. However, I have found something that works for me. At least, it works when the wall has to be painted anyway. If the wall needs to be painted a new color, and will require two coats of paint, I like to paint on one coat and then play around with the placement of my items making up the gallery wall. I have never had much luck with marking out the spaces on the wall with painters…

Jobs-For-Hire Board
Command Center Jobs-For-Hire Board One of the things I knew from the beginning I wanted to add to my Command Center is a jobs-for-hire board. When I received this beautiful barn door chalk/magnet/ cork board for Christmas, I knew I had found the home for my jobs-for-hire board. Job Descriptions The jobs I list on my Jobs-For-Hire board are usually quick jobs I could use some help with. I list things like “Vacuum the stairs” or “Unload the dishwasher”. Along with the jobs, I include how much you will be paid for the job and I attach the cash to the cork board behind the job posting. This simple practice…

Creating a Family Menu Board for Your Command Center
My family definitely needs to have planned meals. With the kids’ sports’ schedules some days we need to have quick and easy meals (or possibly even eat-on-the-run meals), but on the days with no sports or after-school activities we prefer longer, sit-down meals and having the menu planned out a week at a time helps us make sure we aren’t missing any opportunities to do just that. Having a menu board also helps with grocery shopping as I am no longer standing in the middle of Kroger trying to figure out what I should make for dinner. I knew when I began working on a command center, that a menu…

Barn Door Chalk Board
One of my most loved items for my command center is this cute barn door chalkboard/memo board/magnetic board from Kirkland’s. I love the farmhouse look of this item as well as its usefulness. I love it when I can find an item that is not only useful but also trendy. I sometimes use the chalkboard to remind us of important upcoming events, sometimes I use it to wish the littles a great day, great game, happy birthday, etc. Other times we draw a happy pictures so that’s the last thing we see before going out into bad weather. We have found plenty of uses for the chalkboard. As for the…
