ORC – sofaless living space – Fresh Paint – Week 3

One Room Challenge, ORC, dining room

Welcome back!  If you are just joining us for the One Room Challenge, you can check out our plans here.  This week was painting week for us and unlike when I did the One Room Challenge for my dining room, the paint came out as I planned the first time this time.

Luckily with this room, there was no damage to the walls, no peeling tape, and nothing to patch other than a few tiny holes where pictures had been.

The paint color choice was also simple this time.  When I finished our dining room there was a little issue with the ceiling paint color choice, and since I finally found one I loved for that ceiling, I went with it for the walls and ceiling of the open living room.  This room is adjacent to the dining room and too many colors would look disjointed.  I love how well it blends with the ceiling of the dining room matching the walls and ceiling of the living room.

The color I chose is Toasted Almond by PPG Paints.

Toasted Almond is part of PPG’s off-white collection and it is very neutral.  It is neither too yellow nor too grey.  It is a very soft off-white.

I am not usually a huge fan of a feature wall with a different paint color, but this little recessed area just seems to be the perfect spot for a different color.

Now for the other color.  I knew I wanted a dark color, almost black, but I also needed it to be soft, so not a true black.  After looking at a few options we ended up selecting Iron Ore by Sherwin Williams.

My husband was very unsure about this and I had to agree to repaint if he didn’t love it.

There has been some overlap with the painting and the installation of the hardwood, so I haven’t been able to get a great after picture yet.  Look for that in next week’s update along with some new hardwood flooring!
