Week 5 One Room Challenge Sofaless livingroom

One Room Challenge, ORC, dining room

Welcome back!  If you are just joining us for the One Room Challenge, you can check out our plans here.

So far we have painted, and had new hardwood floors installed so the hard parts should be over.  Now on to the fun.  Two of my design inspirations for this room were this map from Conquest Maps and this rug from Ruggable.

Since this map and rug are our inspiration, we ordered them a while ago.  It seems sometime between then and now, Ruggable has discontinued this specific rug.  However, they have lots of other nice rugs, and I am really happy I purchased this one early!

Time to unbox my rug – it’s been stored away for far too long!

I love it even more in the room that I had imagined.

Now a close up of the Conquest Map, push pin map.  I have wanted one of these for years and we couldn’t wait to update it with the pins.  We even had some in before we were able to hang it!

Next I’m going to  shop for new lighting.  We had a ceiling fan installed in this room when we built the house, but decide to go with a light fixture this time.

Since the room is open to our dining room I need to match the style in there.  This is the dining room light:

Here’s a look at the current ceiling fan.

I looked at several places, and found these options at Menard’s.

I like this one, but it looks a little too much like it belongs in a dining room to me.

Here’s another option, but I’m just not sure this would make enough light.

I love how unique this one is, but something about it just doesn’t seem right.  Maybe it needs wood accents to follow the style of the dining room?

I think this is the one!  Five lights.  The lights point more down than up so they throw a bit of extra light and it has some wood accents.  This one is coming home with me.

I am really loving this combination.

Next week we plan to bring in chairs, a footstool, and hopefully a table to go along the accent wall – though we have struggled to find one that fits the space.  That little area is not very deep, so finding one that is just right has been a challenge itself.
