Week 4 – One Room Challenge – Sofaless livingroom

One Room Challenge, ORC, dining room

Welcome back!  If you are just joining us for the One Room Challenge, you can check out our plans here. You can also check out Painting Week here.  This week was all about the flooring, and since we hired that out, I shopped for new lighting.

We have wanted to remove some of our carpet and replace with hardwood for a few years now.  However, all of our halls had original hardwood, so we wanted it to be seamless and whenever we looked into it, we did not get a good feeling it would come out as seamless as we had hoped.  We finally found a company, Park Place Flooring, that seemed to understand what we were looking for.

Here are a picture of before to get us started:

Here comes the new hardwood:

After they removed the carpet, they removed select sections of the old hardwood.  This will allow the new pieces to fit in seamlessly.  Without this set there would always be a straight line between the old flooring and the new.

Sorry about the lighting, it has gotten really late, but this is basically the same angle as the before shot at the top.  It’s really coming together.

This one is from the other direction.

I can’t believe I didn’t get a picture from the same angle after sanding, but I didn’t realize I hadn’t taken one until I was putting my blog post together.  Anyway, when I took the other photos, I was standing where the plastic is covering the door.  So this is the same area of the floor, just from the opposite side.

The wood is all down and sanded, and here’s a great shot of that little area we painted with Sherwin Williams Iron Ore.

Seeing the floors all down but no stain makes me realize just how big of a decision this is.  It’s not like paint and I can just change it if I don’t like it.  This is big, time consuming, expensive and it’s staying for years.  I hope I don’t screw this up.

Park Place Flooring gave me 6 really nice options; then I went to the store and picked out a bunch more.

In the end, we went with one of the original 6.  We chose ?????

Back to my original vantage point for this after shot of the floors.  I love how it’s impossible to tell where the old wood ends and the new begins.

Whew, what a week.  But the floors are down and both the rug and the map (from my mood board) have been delivered!  Now that the hard part is over, it’s time for the fun!!
