What to Pack for Your First Cruise

I just returned home from my first ever cruise and thought it was a great time to tell you some of the things I wish I had known before the cruise.  So in case it’s almost time to cruise and you are still struggling with what to pack here are my top 6 cruise essentials packing tips. First You need to pack a backup battery charger.  You will probably use your phone as a camera and you will need to be able to charge everyone’s phone.  The battery pack we use is an older version of this one: USB C Portable Charger RAVPower 26800mAh Battery Pack with Dual Input Port…

    Styled Bar Cart

I love this beautiful bar cart my parents gave me.  It has top and bottom shelves, both of which are leather covered.  It has a wine rack just below the top shelf.  I really love it.  But I’m not a big drinker, so going full bar-cart never seemed to be the right fit.  Instead I have always styled the cart for the current season. After updating some dark colored candle sticks with white and gold gilding, I added a spring vase, and a piece of Mikasa stoneware.  The wine rack stores a few bottles of wine, and the bottom shelf houses my Mikasa wineglasses.  I love how these few updates…

    How to Apply Gold Leaf

Gold Leaf How To:   Gold leafing, or gilding, can add an elegant look to many projects and it’s much easier to do than it seems. I want to walk you through the steps I used to add a gold leafing to these otherwise plain white candlesticks. When I first decided to update these candlesticks I thought I wanted to go with an all-white rustic look. However, when they were finished they reminded me more of something that belongs in Disney’s Haunted Mansion than something I would love to have displayed in my dining room. Don’t get me wrong, I do love Disney’s Haunted Mansion, I just don’t want my…

Updating an Orange-y Oak to a modern whitewash

How to Transform Orange-y Oak to a Modern Whitewash I found this cute little sign that is perfect for my command center – above the weekly calendar. I love this piece, and it’s placement, because we should all try to remember to enjoy every moment of everyday – not just the big moments or the big days! What I didn’t love was the orange-y color of the piece. To fit with my other items in the command center, I wanted to get rid of the orange and end up with a more modern farmhouse look of aged gray. To achieve the look I wanted, I used a two-step process. First…

Updating the look of candlesticks with chalk paint

How to update outdated candlesticks I have had these candle sticks for years and while I still love the shape and texture of them, the dark colors look outdated. I knew I wanted to give them an update but until I found these blush, white, and greige candles I wasn’t sure exactly how I planned to update them.  I found these candles at Target.  Well, I like to think they found me, isn’t that how Target works after all.   Using the candle as inspiration, I decided to paint the candle sticks white and add some golden touches.  I first disassembled the candle sticks.  Each consists of 3 pieces.  The…

    Jobs-For-Hire Board

Command Center Jobs-For-Hire Board One of the things I knew from the beginning I wanted to add to my Command Center is a jobs-for-hire board.  When I received this beautiful barn door chalk/magnet/ cork board for Christmas, I knew I had found the home for my jobs-for-hire board. Job Descriptions The jobs I list on my Jobs-For-Hire board are usually quick jobs I could use some help with.  I list things like “Vacuum the stairs” or “Unload the dishwasher”.  Along with the jobs, I include how much you will be paid for the job and I attach the cash to the cork board behind the job posting.  This simple practice…
