Adding a Pickling Wash
How to Transform Orange-y Oak to a Modern Whitewash I found this cute little sign that is perfect for my command center – above the weekly calendar. I love this piece, and it’s placement, because we should all try to remember to enjoy every moment of everyday – not just the big moments or the big days! What I didn’t love was the orange-y color of the piece. To fit with my other items in the command center, I wanted to get rid of the orange and end up with a more modern farmhouse look of aged gray. To achieve the look I wanted, I used a two-step process. First…

Creating a Family Menu Board for Your Command Center
My family definitely needs to have planned meals. With the kids’ sports’ schedules some days we need to have quick and easy meals (or possibly even eat-on-the-run meals), but on the days with no sports or after-school activities we prefer longer, sit-down meals and having the menu planned out a week at a time helps us make sure we aren’t missing any opportunities to do just that. Teen bathroom mason jar organizer with lighted arrow
The above link helps our page as we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. Keeping with her love of rustic and my love of practical, I attached mason jars to this cute little pre-lit rustic arrow I purchased at Hobby Lobby. This adorable and useful organize was quite simple to make. To make your own you will need a wooden base, I used the pre-lit rustic arrow. You will also need mason jars (I used 4 because that is how many I could fit onto my arrow). You will also need plumbing clamps and screws and drywall anchors to secure the organizer to the wall.…

Decorating the Top of an Armoire or Chest
When decorating the top of an armoire or chest, you first need to determine how much space you have. You will need to know, not only how much flat surface you have to work with but also how much vertical space you have. You also need to account for any “drop” that exists from the top of the trim down to the surface where your accessories will sit. Once you determine the drop, you will need to decide if you want to work with the drop, or eliminate it. In my case, I effectively eliminated the drop by placing old text books flat on the surface to raise the…

Barn Door Chalk Board
One of my most loved items for my command center is this cute barn door chalkboard/memo board/magnetic board from Kirkland’s. I love the farmhouse look of this item as well as its usefulness. I love it when I can find an item that is not only useful but also trendy. I sometimes use the chalkboard to remind us of important upcoming events, sometimes I use it to wish the littles a great day, great game, happy birthday, etc. Other times we draw a happy pictures so that’s the last thing we see before going out into bad weather. We have found plenty of uses for the chalkboard. As for the…
